Very nice AD, I seen alot of these when i was in the Navy I was aboard the old Essex bird farm. we had a lot of Able dogs aboard one hell of a airplane it is. By 1968 the navy started to retire them and the flew out as sandys, flown by the South vietnamese Airforce, The AD-2 and Ad-4 models were also used by the united States Airforce, To bad we couldn,t use them durring the second world war, They were suppose to be the succesor to the SB2C Helldivers, A Hardy Well Done she is looking sharp you do great work Boats

Thanks. According to the notes on the instructions, the AD designation was changed in 1962 and became A1-....The plastic kit shown at the start of the build is an A1-H and I'm using it as reference. I always think of the Skyraider as an A1-E, regardless of which model it actually is, because that's the way I heard it in Viet Nam. For the first half of 1968, they were a familiar sight operating from Pleiku AB and they were actively involved in the action following the loss of LS 85 in Laos on March 11, 1968.

David This is very correct, I use to see them all the time buzzing us off the coast of Antoui, By 1969 they were phased out and the old Scooter we use to call them, Thge A4,s Skyhawks they were there successor. The flying dump truck was one of the most powerfull and last of the prop drivin fighter support aircraft the NAVY used. I joined the navy in 1958 I was 18 back then, the AD6,s were all Dark Blue, and by 1960 they were repainted Gull gray and White undersides. your doing a swell bang up job on the old AbleDog. Boats
