jhuck-80 | 05-Feb-14 08:05 | This is one of the things that I have always marveled at when watching your builds. Your work is always on a clean, uncluttered table, and the only tools on view are brushes, Xacto knives, sandpaper or glue. The most important tools, of course, are not in the picture: the hands and eyes.
I hope to someday be good enough at this so that I no longer need some of the tools I am now accumulating. |
David Duckett | 05-Feb-14 09:11 | Thank you. I'm not a tool person and I don't like clutter as it tends to be a distraction. I find it best to keep only what I'm working on in view. There's always the tendency in building a model to start hanging all the pieces on "to see what it looks like" and I'm #1 at it but I prefer to build the pieces separately and concentrate on each one at a time before doing that. The table also serves as my easel and when painting it's even more important to keep things organized. You could say it's my comfort zone. I fully understand that it would drive some folks nuts.:-) |
JohnG. | 05-Feb-14 10:47 | He who accumulates the most modeling tools WINS!!!! By the same token I agree with David about excessive accumulation in the work area. |
Dale1416 | 05-Feb-14 12:18 | Don't see any fancy wood slicing equipment, so assume all your in-fill work is done with X-Acto knives, straight edge, and sanding block. Do you use a razor saw? |
John M Oshust | 05-Feb-14 14:02 | Perhaps having a dedicated workspace, isolated from the living space, could possibly be a contributing factor in work table clutter. In my case the worktable is only for small household repairs and model construction. I do not need to use the table for dining, writing, or other domestic tasks. Gee my "Magic Box" of clutter weighs 15 pounds and is a truly eclectic collection of potential model parts. As a matter of fact, I needed its help this very day:) |
David Duckett | 05-Feb-14 14:53 | I do have a couple of small saws with 6" blades but I rarely use them. All the infill is done with just what you see. |
John M Oshust | 05-Feb-14 15:07 | Your greatest tool is patience😃 |
lukebozek1 | 05-Feb-14 18:28 | Dave, you don't even come close. Dremels, balsa strippers, two Exacto sets, airbrushes, circle cutters, and CA! I don't need no CA all it does is harden on the shelf and I end up throwing it away and ordering more to harden and throw away. The stuff we accumulate! I have at least 4 boxes, spread out across the household to the point where I can't find squat! I really need a life. |
