SteveM | 27-Jan-10 22:27 | These are the front pieces of the engine nacelles and a few motors for size comparison purposes. |
SteveM | 27-Jan-10 22:34 | On the left is an E-Flite Park 300 brushless outrunner, the motor probably will fit, but the motor mount seen here has tabs that stick out too far to fit. On the right is a GWS LPS motor with 4:1 gearbox that is almost identical to the motor Pat recommends, except that it is designed to swing an 8" prop. In the middle is a brushless motor sized to fit the MM Hellcat, you can't see it well from this angle, but the gear is nearly as big as the Park 300 motor and would have clearance issues. In summary, use very small outrunners or a geared motor in which you make sure the gearbox doesn't have large gears that won't fit. |
SteveM | 27-Jan-10 22:39 | The Park 300 motor diameter (not including motor mount) is about 2.7cm and the large gear on the Hellcat's motor is about 2.5cm. Anything larger than these rotating around the same axis as the prop will have trouble fitting, and I'm not sure these will fit anyways due to the curve of the nacelles. |
