scirocco14 | 25-Jul-09 18:11 | After 3 kits, I had the itch to try a scratch build since I had a box full of extra balsa. I scoured the internet for free plans and came across this design for a 1930s racer. Anyone familiar with it? |
scirocco14 | 25-Jul-09 18:16 | Oh, and I'm definitely building it as a flyer!! I'm getting a big kick out of learning what it takes to make these fly. This is a 24" wingspan racer, should be fun! |
scirocco14 | 27-Jul-09 09:59 | Question for the experienced guys out there: what's the best technique for building this fuselage? The formers appear to be framed, and the fuselage has compound curves in it. My thought was to split the formers in half vertically and build the fuselage one half at a time and then combine.
Thoughts? |
Heinrich Dorfmann | 27-Jul-09 12:24 | When looking at the bulkhead cross sections for F1 / F3 / F5, I think that you are supposed to build two frames on the side view and to join them w. upper / lower bulkhead pieces to get a basic fuselage. On the side view, I would guess that the upper stringer of the frame is the one two stringers above the words "F1" / "F2" and so on. I would not split the bulkheads on this one. For a free plan, this is a very nice / clean one. |
