scigs30 | 24-Jun-10 19:29 | Finished the painting using Design Masters paints. The paint added just over 2 grams to the weight, not too bad. This plane has removable landing gear for flight, but could also fly with the landing gear. I still have to spray glosscote then apply the decals and spray dullcote. Then I will attach the canopy. Part of me is thinking I should just leave these old comet kits white and apply the decals. I think it is kind of neat to show off the Comet structure with the original Comet white tissue. What do you all think? |

CPN | 25-Jun-10 05:29 | Every once in a while it can't hurt to leave one unpainted - your structures are perfectly straight and true - why hide that? My models need all the paint they can get. From time to time I'll leave a model of a plane that was finished as bare or polished aluminum unpainted and add the accents like decals, antiglare panels, wingwalks, control surface lines etc. P-51s are good candidates for this treatment. Silver paint magnifies every wrinkle to the point where it usually (in my case) looks worse painted. |
