I'm pretty proud of it. I made a lot of mistakesb but I learned from them. |
sweetwillie | 06-Feb-08 23:08 |
The hull was not built from planking but from 2" sheets of wood. |
SteveM | 06-Feb-08 23:18 |
Impressive! |
sweetwillie | 06-Feb-08 23:21 |
Thanks Steve, I'll try another one, once I've honed my skills. |
SteveM | 06-Feb-08 23:25 |
I've been tempted to try the USS Constitution or similar. |
sweetwillie | 06-Feb-08 23:46 |
Yeah, I'd love to build one. Maybe someday, I have to get better at modeling before I try that. They're too expensive. |

Very impressive!! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 09:01 |
Thank you Poppy. If I had your skills, it would have turned out a lot better. But I hope I learned from my mistakes and that the next one will be better. It was an enjoyable build. I put in a couple of 24 hour days on her, without even knowing the time had passed. I have about 100 hours on her. |

Coming from you, DD, that is a real compliment. it was fun, and as soon as I can I'm going to try the Cutty Sark or the USS Constitution. |

"Lettuce" all give up planes and switch to ships and boats!!! Maybe there is a site some where called Virtual Harbor! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 16:08 |
I apologize, I didn't think. I should not have put the pics of it on this web site. I'm sorry! |
John M Oshust | 07-Feb-08 16:41 |
SW... Do not take my commnet the wrong way. I am just afraid that soon this site could become Virtual Armored Fighting Vechicles! |
SteveM | 07-Feb-08 17:15 |
I believe VA got its start with RC planes but of late seems to be about 50/40/10 static/FF/RC. The "About" page states "The Virtual Aerodrome is run as a free site to allow aero modellers to have a convenient place to show off their models". I take this to mean pictures of model airplanes, regardless of if they fly and if they are wood or plastic.
James makes the rules, but I for one don't mind the occasional picture showing other craftsmanship that VA members are proud of, or the beautiful AZ sky, or even lasagna. |

You should be very proud, a model finished as well as this requires much skill and patience. Well done!! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 18:31 |
Thanks guys, but John is right, we must be careful to preserve the theme of this site. But I think an occasional venture down a side road, will make us appreciate the reason we're all here. To compare craftsmanship and to bond together in one voice, "Well done". |

I love ships please do not get me wrong. I have been looking at a 5 ft model of the Titanic for my life after airplanes. |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 19:31 |
Yes, John, I believe I remember you mentioning in one of your posts about wanting to build a ship. I would love to see what those magic hands of yours will make. I know it'll be a work of art. Press on!! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 19:43 |
Incidently, Steve, the next time you make Lasagna there's one thing that I don't want you to forget. (830)774-7219 I'll come a runnin! |
David Duckett | 07-Feb-08 20:00 |
The lasagna chef is Moostang! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 20:03 |
The same goes for you Moostang! I love lasagna. |
John M Oshust | 07-Feb-08 20:13 |
DD Correct, I specialze in Eastern European dishes, usually some type of pig parts, cabbage, and potatoes...peasant food. BTW the Tiatanic model is a grand, though you can purchase it in easy installments!! |
sweetwillie | 07-Feb-08 21:39 |
Well, that's out of my price range. I can't wait to see her. |
