dave, when you did your phantom was the elevator one moveable function or was it partitioned? I think on supersonic planes the horizontal stabilizer was one moving element? |
Anders | 12-Mar-15 09:13 |
One moving element, or else you just make turbulence. |

thanks anders. |

That's true of real airplanes but this is a static display model and not expected to encounter any turbulence so the stabilizers were attached as two separate entities and glued in place. I haven't seen the plans for a Dumas F-4 but if it's similar to their F-105 you can build the stabilizers so that they move as one unit if you choose. Considering that these are at an anhedral, that might be a bit tricky. And unless it's flying they don't move, anyway. |

I've been trying to see how the aft section is curved by the engines. I need to carve and sand two 1/4 sq. blocks that recess into the engines and tail but they are hard to determine. I looked through your build david but it was diffuilt to tell through the paint. do you have a close up of the aft section dd? |

I was thinking more like no stab/elevator separation. And you would twist the whole thing. Not a question about left and right surface, but maybe i got the question wrong :) |

I was off on an inquisitive tangent about the stabilizer, anders. |
David Duckett | 12-Mar-15 17:49 |
They are known as stabilators and move as one piece, as there is no separation between stabilizer and elevator. The plans probably show it as one piece so I don't think that was the question. |

Maybe it's the word "partitioned". I realize that it can mean a separation but to me it means a wall. How did you mean it, Brian? Those big words, like automobile and mayonnaise, confuse me. |

I guess I was going for divided. well if it sounds good that's all that counts. lol! |

Oh great! Another sesquipedalian. |

Nice to get things sorted out, seems like i should keep to reading the comments :) and for the record, i do have trouble with some words. Not always easy to understand what you guys mean! Atleast i tried :) |

I have the same problem, Anders, and English is my native language. |

Anders. Det spiller ingen rolle. Hvor mange her kan norsk? Takk for hjelpen. |
