Image Comments David Duckett 18-Mar-18 07:53 Gesso, as in Jesse, is made to prepare nearly any porous surface for painting. It is used primarily to prime raw, or unprimed, canvas. The combination of these two will produce a finish smmoth as glass and with all the holes filled. It also makes the wood harder. For balsa lightly sand after letting it dry, 24 hours recommended, and then give it a coat of filler, repeat and then sand lightly with fine grade paper. You only need light applications of filler.
