poppy | 22-May-13 04:53 | Neat, crisp construction. Are those balsa dowels in wings? |
prbayliss | 23-May-13 20:50 | Thank you for the compliments Poppy!
There are no balsa dowels. The wings attach to the body with aluminum tubing in the body and slightly bent 22 gauge wire (for dihedral) bound and soon to be epoxied to the spars. The leading and trailing edges between the first 2 ribs is 3/8x3/8 balsa sanded to shape. There's still a lot of sanding to be done on the wings.
The interesting thing will be the covering as it's a slightly under cambered wing. I've done it once before but this time i'll use glue stick to attach the tissue and hope that during shrinking, the tissue doesn't pull away from the ribs. Last time I did it I attached with 50/50 dope/thinners and it did stay attached. But I'm getting less and less into the dope. We'll see what happens :)
