John M Oshust | 10-Mar-15 20:51 | Matt...put the model outside in the NJ air for a day and it weathers by itself. However if you leave it outside too long, it dissolves away! I have been playing with a number of things over the last few builds. I will always build biplanes as they afford the greatest opportunity for detailing. I want to mimic the planes in the old B+W photos from WW1, well used but not abused. On Ogre I buffed the surface with a abrasive pad. It dulled the finish, highlighted the wing ribs. Talcum powder in the paint dulls the paint making it more cloth like. This is a real hoot for me experimenting to see what happens. I have been hand painting insignias. This time I printed them on regular paper , sanded the underside to thin them , and soaked them on both sides in polycrylic and slapped them on. At first the paper bubbled but when it dried the roundels shrunk down flat and smooth. Then I abraded them for the used look. The planes in my reference book all had stressed roundels, none looked perfect.
