Thanks to my lack of skill at the sticks James will have to make a "Rebuild" picture category just for me. I got into a spiral near the ground again and didn't get out of it like usual. |

Tonight was training night and I was pretty much the only student there. But the radios they had were not computerized and could not deal with my flaperon setup so I was left to fly on my own tonight. One instructor had me try to line up with the runway but my movements were not very smooth and I kept over correcting. I handed him the transmitter and it was instantly obvious that the controls were way too sensitive. With that plane on the ground we dropped the aileron and elevator dual rates to 50% from 100%. The response is much smoother now and I was actually able to line up and hit the runway several times before the broken motor stick ended my flying for the day. |

Aha. Too much control movement. What are the deflection distances at the end of the rudder, elevator, and ailerons, in both directions, with the sticks at the stops? I'll measure mine tonight, and let you know what I've got. |

I get 1-3/8" on the rudder, 7/8" on the elevator, and 1" on the ailerons. The ailerons are in the outer most hole of the servo arm so I could reduce the throw by moving the linkage, but we just reduced the rate in the radio. When I got home I read my manual and figured out how to ad -30% exponential to each surface as well.Tonight is the monthly club meeting so I might get a chance to fly again tonight and relearn the feel of the controls. |

Is that from full up to full down, Steve? |

Yes, those are the distances from one throw to the other (ie. full up/left to full down/right) without dual rates reducing the movement. |

Steve : Rudder - 0.5" in each direction (1" total movement), Elevator - 0.25" in each direction (0.5" total), Ailerons - about 0.30" in each direction. So, you definitely have much more than I. I don't have an exponential on mine. |

With the dual rates now set I am very close to what you have. About 1" rudder and 1/2" elevator and ailerons. I didn't get a chance to fly tonight but should be able to if I show up early Saturday morning before the work party since most people are gas and can't fly till 9am. |
