CPN | 22-Jun-10 18:50 | All ready for the canopy and some airbrushing - but that will have to wait for the weekend. I am still planning on flying this butcher bird. Any ideas from the crowd on a prop / rubber combo? I'm on unknown ground on this one. |
John Cooper | 23-Jun-10 05:00 | A 6 inch Peck would be a good start. Your 3 bladed 5 inch prop would also work well. You could also try a 7 inch prop, but trimming will get more difficult. The amount of rubber depends on the weight. If the model comes out to around 25g, you could start with 2 12" long loops of 1/8". |
scigs30 | 23-Jun-10 07:53 | Most of these birds fly great with the Guillows 5 inch prop. This bird is bigger than the other 500 series so a 6 inch prop is perfect. You can use a Peck prop or Guillows 6 inch prop. Rubber if under 30 grams, 2 lengths of 1/8 rubber or 1/4 inch. If over 30 grams go with 3 lengths of 1/8th. |
CPN | 23-Jun-10 18:39 | Thank you both for the input. I will try the Peck 6 inch prop (a survivor from an earlier build) and 2 loops of 1/8" rubber. I put one 3/16" loop in today just to see how it wanted to balance out with the noseblock in it. Just for kicks I gave it about 400 winds and the prop spun very slowly. So we'll get the real motor in later this week and try some trimming flights before I paint. |
