That`s great. Thanks for posting that info. It`s always nice to know what the function of the detail is. Mystery solved. Now I can sleep better. I haven`t worked on my chipmunk for a few weeks, been busy with work and finishing up my Sig Kadet Seniorita Build. I bought myself a Real Flight simulator. What a blast. A great tool for a newb to RC. |

having a couple beers waiting for the superbowl to start back up... I found this site that I believe confirms my fuel vent guess. http://www.dhcchipmunk.com/fuelandoil.html I've started building my Chippie and ran across this looking for an interesting paint scheme |

Although not on aircraft, I was an instructor in the Air Force for a couple of years so I'm thinking...since it's a trainer, they might be to let the student know just exactly where the landing gear is when he's learning to drive it around the flightline. :-) |

Just wanted to say thanks Peregrin for posting the link for Wingsovereurope. Awesome stuff. My new favorite site.
Yes..perhaps the pegs are some kind of venting tube. eventually I`ll find out. |

sorry, actually this link had the clearer pictures: http://www.wingsovereurope.com/chipmunk_t-10_walkaround.html |

I notice these "pegs" are fuselage/wing color on civil versions and don't really look like moving parts, perhaps some other function, ie wing tank vents or ?? Here are some decent walk-arounds: http://www.wingsovereurope.com/chipmunk_civil_gallery_1.html |

My understanding is that the wing pegs told the pilot that the landing gear was up or down depending on whether the red peg was either in or out. If the Chipmunks landing gear
was always fully extended and did not retract. Why was this detail included in it`s design? Or was it simply for the training pilots education. |

Thanks David .So the pegs where there for what purpose? |
David Duckett, Comment for image # 28272 | 06 Jan 13 04:06 |
The landing gear was fixed, not retractable. |

The spinner is painted with chrome spray paint. I wasn`t sure about the function of the red pegs.I know that on some planes they showed the pilot the position of the landing gear. Did they retract on the chipmunk? Were they not always fully extended? Anyone know? Thanks |

Lots of neat little details. I like the red rod that lets the pilot know if the wheels are up or down. Where did you get the spinner? It looks like spun aluminum. |

Excellent work. |

Decided to do some cockpit detail. It really brings it to life and gives the model a great sense of realism. The Roundels I pulled off Google images and printed on regular paper. The letters and numbers are dry transfers I picked up at the model railroad shop. I`m still learning how to make my own waterslide decals.Tape used for wing walk and grey pinstripe used on flaps.5 coats of yellow hand painted on canopy. Painted inseide of the canopy grey - What a process. I bought myself the Top-Flight DC3 Model kit. Pure awesomeness! It`s HUGE!! Check out britmodeller.com for walkaround pics on various planes.
Happy New Year! |

Mr. Willson, where did you get your decals? |

It's awesome to see an airplane from the RCAF. That is what I'm shooting for on my next build. Give yourself a pat on the back for this one. JFB!!! :) |
