This was a much simpler idea than whatever the heck it was they were telling you to build in the directions. I just built something like this for my tail wheel and it works great! Thanks for the inspiration. Nice job on your corsair too, I like the Royal Navy scheme. I'm actually converting my guillow's F4U into a goodyear F2G super corsair. Been fabricating a lot with it. |

This photo shows the latch in the closed position. It can be rotated to allow the the wheel to lower and then rotated back to keep the wheel lowered. |

This is a duplicate of the latch I made t to hold the corsair's tail wheel in place. |

Please do so, as the Mig-3 I am building has a retractable rear wheel. I would love to incorporate this technique into my Mig. |

I drilled a hole in a 1/8 by 1/16 stringer that I added to give the tail a little more shape and then slipped a piece of wire throgh the hole and carefully bent it into kind of a lopsided U shape. One end of the U is about 1/4 inch and the other end is long enough to span the width of the wheel well. I can reach in with a pencil and rotate the wire when I want to raise or lower the wheel, and then rotate it back into position to lock the wheel up or down. I'll try to post a photo when I get into work tomorrow. |

Nice job!!! You've given me inspiration to finish mine now that I'm mostly done with the Spit. What did you end up doing with the tail wheel? |

No, it's way too heavy to fly. Someday I'll make one that does. |

I'm very impressed by the level of quality of everyone's planes. There are really some very impressive models on the site.
The Corsair is beautiful.

Very nice looking Corsair. Nice colour scheme too, different to the more common US Navy blue(s). |
