Hi Bill I think if you use a water base paint with the calk it going to run on your balsa now I realy not for sure Ive haven,t try this.I didn,t realize how big these birds are.Iam going to get me one. They just got a real one up out of the waters off the coast of Pensacola it was in good shape. They want to get it flyable. There six of them still flying |

Hello Bill. You may want to try some artists "Pastels" instead of chalk. They have WAY more pigment in them than "Chalk". You can buy only the colors you need individually, or a set. An O.K. brand is "Rembrandt". "Nupastel"s are harder. Remember not to buy the "Oil" pastels, they're like insane crayons. Personally, I love 'em! Haven't tried them on a model though....Hmmm...yet! cool idea... Problem is I realized that it was going to be easy to use way too much chalk. Way too heavy is what I mean. I was able this way to use half a stick of blue, and a tenth of a stick of black to darken it. Then a third of a stick of green for the intermediate color. The stuff is heavy. Prolly won't try it again on a big plane anyway, but on the little ones, I'm going to do some actual cammo. |

next time, try sanding the chalk off of the sticks, and then brushing on the dust

Yeah, I can do that, but I'm looking for a way to cut it very square so that it seats properly on the cowl... Trying to sand square is tough enuff on hardwood... Balsa is a one shot deal. |
FLYBOYZ, Comment for image # 15259 | 02 Dec 09 22:04 |
From back to front of cowl then sand it !Think thats what your looking for |
BillParker, Comment for image # 15259 | 02 Dec 09 18:42 |
okay, once cut in half this is two nose blocks for the rubber power on the Grummans... I'm going to square up the ends, then cut it in half, making two. Each will be slightly too long, (tall, big, whatever...) to allow the nose cowl to fit. Question is how do I accurately measure nose former to inside of cowling? And does anybuddy have any idea what I'm talking about? *G* |

The Parker Increased Scale Technique (PIST) was used for this aircraft. |
