Some one I knew on my wife's side of the family was a B29 gunner based on Saipan in 1945. He was there when the first atom bomb was dropped on Japan, but he didn't hear about it until afterward. Tonight I was reading to my wife something he had written, about a mission over Tokyo where their B29 lost 2 engines from a Flak hit. They managed to make to Iwo Jima. It turned out to be a "small" blessing because after his 35th mission he was sent directly home on a Liberty ship (8 days sail time to California) due to having earned a Distinguished Flying Cross (boosting his points). Other guys had to wait their turn. |

Some of you may remember the guy from Alaska who posted photos of his B-29 and said he used 32 rattle cans of paint on it?? My comment here was about that. This model by Dale is about as good as you get for a straight build "by the plans". |

Original plans for the B-29 that I built as a kid. I remember the kit for the YAK-9 cost 10 cents. |

A surprise from the past. With my 78th birthday passing last week, I received a package containing the old plans, of the model airplanes I had built as a kid. Thought they were long gone. |

Enjoyed reminiscing about those early model airplane builds. |

The old Comet plans were copyright 1943-46. |

Some of the kit manufacture names found on those old plans: Eastern Flying Models, Comet, Capital Model Aircraft Co., Cleveland, Megow Models, and Hobby Model Mfg. Co. |

I sent this guy an email telling him that I did not give permission to use my photos. He responded with an apology and said that since they were on virtualaerodrome for all to see he figured it was ok to use them. I told him I didn't mind if he credits the photo. |
