Another problem to correct is the rake of the landing gear. They should only have a slight, almost no forward rake. |

Here we can see on the plans the exhaust shroud and the short nacelle, which is a mix of the series I and II. Good catch poppy! |

A few pages earlier - "The only adverse characteristic that came to light during pre-service testing was some tail buffeting, caused by disturbed airflow aft of the engine nacelles. This trouble was cured on later production aircraft by lengthening the nacelle so that it projected beyond the wing trailing edge."
Based on the exhaust shroud I'd say Guillow's was modeling the Series II with the extended nacelles, but since the nacelles are not extended past the wing TE on the plans it seems the kit is not entirely accurate. |

"The Series II aircraft differed from earlier Series I aircraft mainly in the engine nacelles. To cure the airflow problems around the nacelle it was extended beyond the wing trailing edge. Additionally, the wheel well doors were enlarged and the exhaust system was changed to individual exhaust stacks which were covered by a shroud to hide the exhaust flames for night operations." |

DD was right, the Typhoon decals have a lot in common with the Mosquito decals. But I will probably use high res scans, the Gimp, and a printer to make my own. |

Probably not next, I would like to finish up the Dumas Corsair and get some experience with electric FF that I can take with me into building the 400 series P-51 for the 2008 G challenge. I am not sure what I will do next, but I am thinking a B-25 would be good experience before tackling any discontinued kits such as this one. |

Is this next? A great Guillow's kit, probably my favorite so far. Highly detailed with plenty of plastic. I also substituted wheels but I've done that on all builds but the Mess, because their actual wheel was thin and a replacement would have looked out of place and not turned into the wheel wells. Enjoy this one. More than challenging. |

An idea I took from DD, 1-1/2" and 3/4" "tailwheel" from Great Planes to replace the kit wheels. |

The only things you really need are the white and clear plastic pieces since all the wooden parts are shown, as per usual with a Guillows kit, on the plans and can easily be duplicated. The decals look, as did mine, a bit rough but you can easily substitute the ones from the Guillows Typhoon which is what I did. The instructions for bending the wire for and attaching the wheel to it just don't make sense so I made it in two pieces. The dual tailwheels are a bit tricky, too. The plastic pieces fit better than most Guillows kits. It's a beautiful plane and based on what you're doing now, I have no doubt you'll turn it into something just as beautiful. |

That's good to hear from someone that has built this. I was using the pictures of your kit when trying to determine if it was complete. |

It looks complete. |

You're a lucky man. Been trying to obtain this kit for some time. She's a beautiful bird. |

The fuselage has been started but all of the wood appears to be there. |

Added to the queue for a future build. |
