I use 1/32" balsa covered with medium silkspan. The trick is to sand VERY lightly because the wood is already thin. This has worked on most all my models with no bulkiness effect on final outlines. I guess that converts to .010cm. |

Hey Poppy, got a question for ya. I was thinking of using your covering technique rather than using block filling for my AT-6. The reason being that the stringers were extremely weak when I started building, even after I doped them. I was wondering what size thickness of balsa wood you used. I was thinking of using 040 thickness pieces that I just bought, guess I'm worried about it making the SNJ look too chunky. |

A drafting scale, steel ruler w/cork backing, and india ink pens, Faber-Castille or Sharpie used to make panel lines. |

A beautiful bit of craftsmanship. just when i think the bar could not be raised any higher you manage to pull one out the bag! |

Thanks for the note on the ads, Poppy. I'll probably try some different layouts. I also want to see why we seem to get ads for hotels; they're not really very relevent. I understand why 'Miami Models' adverts come up, but it'd be good to get rid of them too. Where are the ads for balsa supplies, or covering materials?! |

BTW James, I have no problem with the ads. You have created such a great venue that whatever it takes to keep it working is fine with me. |

So it is the angle of this picture. At least we got to see one more picture of it. :) Thanks Poppy! |

Perhaps this image better show wing angles. |
poppy, Comment for image # 10701 | 19 Feb 09 22:09 |
James, indeed they are swept back at the proper angle, but trailing edges are not straight from the attach points, They are angled slightly forward, as shown on the smaller models. |

Gee I wonder if it can be "Model of the month" on the Guillows site? Me thinks it is a no brainer. Bigger is better! |

The big one is awesome! To think that it's made of wood ... |

Poppy. This is a fantastic model, I love the colour scheme, and the detailing is superb. However, is it just the angle of this picture, or do the wings look like they are on backwards? :-/ The leading edge of the Texan are swept back, but the trailing edge is almost straight - but that's not how it looks on the big 1/16th model. Maybe it's just the angle of this picture... |
