Like all my vintage builds, I would have used the supplied tissue in the kit, but I cannot have a white J3 Cub. Since the span is too great on the on LE of the wing, you can see where it pulled it in, I knew this was going to happen, oh well. Tissue applied with 50/50 Elmers white glue and water then sealed with thin Sig Lite Cote. We have family coming into town so I will not be able to finish for a week or so. |
hjlittman, Comment for image # 44782 | 02 May 25 19:27 | The Comet distributor in Los Angles, during the 70s, was one of my customers when I did computer/word processor service. They gave me several Super Star kits of which I have only built the Zero. I discovered that if you leave out the tube, lighten up the tail feathers and make a removable nose block they will fly decently. I know that the Stuka is a real flying lumberyard but I made a Guillow's 500 series Stuka fly so I have every confidence that you will eventually get a flight out of your Super Star Stuka. I have a Fw190, Bf109, P-51, all in the 22" range, and the 36" Sopwith Camel. I have been itching to get the Camel built and get it to fly as a Giant Scale rubber powered model. (Converting it to electric RC, I think, would be less of a challenge.) The Black Sheep Exhibition Squadron has an Any Comet Kit contest coming up but I don't have time to get the Camel ready for that one so I will fly my "25 cent" P-51A. |
