Looking good Jerry, keep it up. It's worth the effort, and you've got a good looking model there. |

The skinning with 1/32 balsa is finished and sanding has begun. It sure is a lot of work, I'm not sure I want to go this route except on special projects. |

Nice work Jerry. This is going to look stunning! |

Both panels are basswood as most of the cockpit components will be. I find basswood easier to work with when dealling in small parts such as the cockpit, it is also easier to seal the wood grain with filler. |

Thank you folks for the clarification......JGJ |

Trial fitting the floor and rear panels - a lot of work to do on this beast, both inside and out. |

That's looking good, Jerry. It'll be a real beauty |

While waiting for skinning sections to dry I began working on components of the cockpit. The rear cockpit panel is leaning against the wing and the floor panel is in front of the rear panel. |

The skinning on the bottom is coming along although slowly. |

I've added the nose cone and begun the skinnning. |

Since it is my first sheeted model, I added extra stringers for strength and a base for the sheeting, but I can certainly understand what Logan Patterson is talking about. Almost 50 years ago I sheeted (the only time) a Guillows Zero (bellieve they are still mfr it after 50 years?)with no extra stringers; the 1/32 sheet sunk slightly between stringers giving an unsatisfactory look to the aircraft's look. |

sorry i meant to say sheet the MODEL with 1/32 |

What i've discovered when you sheet the a with 1/32 balsa, if you don't have enough stringers your stringers will show through the sheeting which will make your model look very blocky. |

Extra stingers/spars?? |
JohnG., Comment for image # 8048 | 28 Apr 08 09:40 |
Curious question: You are sheeting it...then what is the purpose of EXTRA stringers/spars???? |

Looking top notch Jerry, Great looking build. as I understand these aircraft/rockets were used when the germans knew a bombing raid was coming and they would use the rocket engine to climb to the highest altitude and then glide down and attack bomber formations before trying to make it back to the airfield they launched from. Kind of a crap shoot so to speak. |

With extra stringers and balsa sheeting as strength I cut out the wings that intruded into the cockpit so a full cockpit can be installed. |
