Sounds devious... but fun! |

I know, I'm just the janitor here at the moment. The only moderation I do is to put small blemishes onto your models when they look too good. |

You know, come to think of it, I've seen all you're "Hanger" stuff, but yet have to see you build something oh "Moderator of Models" (MOM for short!) ;)! |

I love this picture. The building board, the plans, the wood, the tools... I need to build something soon! |

If you plan on High Starting it, one option I was looking at was installing a 1/8" to 5/16" carbon rod (or tube, "Wrapped" preferably) embedded in that "Monster leading edge stock to hide it ( Bigger dia. inboard, smaller outboard. The "Joiners" are the critical part). Also, what I'm gonna try (so wait and see, if you don't finish before me, that is) is to glass right over the covering (.75 oz cloth) on the front portion of the fuse on the bias for tortional rigitity and strength without losing that beautiful "Covered Look" that make these vintage gliders so attractive. |

I have the good fortune of having two of the Thermic 50, both are by Jetco. One is the full fuse and one is the pod and boom. I plan to build the full fuse one first. After flying it as a glider, I'd like to sheet the forward fuselage and install some kind of motor on it, electric most likely. Thanks for the TMRC info. |

Sorry, got busy makin' moola (in my line of work you gotta "Make Hay while the Sun Shines" and fortunately, "Balsa Dust when it ain't"! so not much has happened as of yet. But the current forcast calls for "Cloudy" weather;). SF, do you have a "Jetco", or a "Jasco"? Full fuse or "Pod and Boom" type? Don't know if you have, but ckeck out "TMRC" sailplanes website. They've
rekitted the "Jasco Thermic 50 & 72, laser cut, looks sweet, plus they've a link to a RC Groups build of this model (RC & "Electrified"). I'm taking mine a little further to the "Robust" side (overbuilding) because I predominatly fly on the slope and ballast will more than likely be a must (I'm lucky to live in an area with a healthy "Onshore" air flow. And I'm gonna fly the "Bejeevs" out of mine just to show all those "Composite Guys" that "Wood is Good!" he he he.
Well, until you hit Mother Earth a bit too hard. |

How is the Thermic 50 progressing? I've got one of these in my 'to build' queue. Plans are to install a Hitec Focus III and launch by hi-start to gain some primary RC experience. Later we may add electric or glo engine for powered flight. I am watching your build to get some construction ideas. |

V-1, an early Horten flying wing glider, as well as
many early rocket motors on display ("T" Stopf und "C" Stopf). Went there yesterday. Lot's of Aircraft. |

The American Boeing P-26, nicknamed the "Peashooter", was the first all-metal production fighter aircraft and the first pursuit monoplane used by the United States Army Air Corps. The prototype first flew in 1932, and were used by the Air Corps as late as 1941 in the Philippines |

No special lens. The local crow faction here abouts (lots and lots) are nesting already (seen em' gathering prime building materials of late). They're getting very protective around their nesting sites I believe. 'Cause them little baby crows sure make some tasty snacks! Fun to watch the crows go after the hawks. Makes you feel sorry for the hawks. The hawks around here are quite familiar with humans so I don't think he thought I was a big concern at the moment. 20 ft. away at 45 deg. above horizon. |

Yes DD a group of crows is called a murder of crows, just like a group of lions is known as a pride of lions. I meant to ask if there was a obvious reason that the hawk was hanging out, normally if you get close enough to take this nice a photo the bird is long gone, maybe a special lens on the camera? |

I don't understand. Is a group of crows referred to as a "murder of crows" or is something else meant here? Were the crows waiting to attack the hawk? ?? |
pfinn, Comment for image # 11643 | 30 Mar 09 15:52 |
Yes, you're right. I guess I got old "Crows" and "Witches" mixed up. Don't know why. It was there for about 4-5 min. before it decided to make a dash for it. 30-50 crows were all silently waiting. A bit eerie, after all the ruckus. |

I hate to picky but it was a murder of crows. Nice photo of the hawk. Any idea why it stood still for the picture? |
