I use several different pieces of flexible plastic in different lengths as guides when drawing on the lines. Usually the piece is taped in place first. For the line around the cowling I used 1/64" Chartpak tape. The circles and ovals are from plastic templates. I don't measure any of these for exact placement, just eye ball them. |

By the way, I am getting ready to build a small trainer type control line airplane. It will have a solid balsa wing and body. My question is what do I use as a sanding filler? I plan on sanding/shaping, filling, sealing, sanding again then paint. So, what do you suggest for this process? I plan on using spray for the primer and base coat, then acrylics for the details. I appreciate your help as well as anyone else who would like to cointribute. |

Atmospheric conditions are affected by extreme balsa dust around this part of Arizona. There are NOTAMs issued at the surrounding airfields about it. The local vegetation and wildlife has adapted amazingly. |

This is the dust being blown in front of an approaching storm and is a fairly common thing in the spring and summer. This is a bit more intense than normal but I don't remember the dust level being increased too much. Course, sometimes it's hard to distinguish whether the dust is dirt or from balsa so I may have missed it. |

I spent 30 days at China Lake in Death Valley. We got hit by a sandstorm and had to hide in my pup tent in with a towel wrapped around my head. Everything I had was filled with dust even the stuff in my closed duffle bag. Does it get into your house and vehicles? |

Do you use a brush or spray to paint? your finishes are always so professional looking. |
