Yes I was trying to copy the color of a target (towing?) drone I had seen. But the colors were wrong. I think new caterpillar yellow would have been about right but couldn't find a reasonably priced can of it. The pictures are still in my hanger. |

Looks very good. Didn't we see this aircraft in yellow, and orange at some point? Did you change your mind on the colours? |

I found it at http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=5160. It is a F6F-3K in service as a target drone post ww2. |

I think it might have been used for research. I remember seeing many F6F's being flown fro Litchfield, AZ into Pt Mugu NAS in CA in the early 50's. Some painted like this one was for remote control experiments and others were painted red and used as target drones for the early missile programs. |

Must be a expermintal type of the F6F it was painted a bright color to keep our on flak guns from shooting it down. They did a lot of prototypes this way too.But Iam looking at the X-2 on the tail and no guns mounted on leading edge of wings.Beleave to be a prototype.Very nice find! |

When I get them up like this I realize that I missed the color by quiet a bit. I need a yellow with orange nose ring and fuel tank. |

Some how it reminds me of Home Depot Building Supplies. |

Not every F6F was blue or blue grey! |

Wingspanner thanks for the encouragement. You have several very nice models in your hanger. I'm starting the Dauntless now while I wait for dark blue dope for the Hellcat. Alex |

Youre being a bit hard on yourself. I was the same after a 20 yr gap. Ive only been at it two years since. youre tissue covering is excellent. The wood supplied in these guillows kits are trash. So to have built a plane to the quality you have is excellent. The west wings, Dumas and Larger kits like Aerodromerc and Manzano laser quality are worth it in the long run. |

I finally found a bottle of clear after it was all covered. I'm going to use it on the next model to see if it was me or the white glue that caused the poor covering job. |

Not too bad |

The cockpit detail is the best thing so far. |

No clear dope to be had locally. Tried clear nail polish then tried Elmers 50/50. I'm going to try a glue stick next. This is my first model in 20 years and I admit that I'm out of practice but the results are not too good.

I'm to point of covering the frame. I think I'll use clear dope to glue it on. |
