There are several fillers on the market. Hobbylite balsa filler and Microfill are a couple of good ones. Make sure all the glue joints are tight. If the balsa flexes when you are sanding it can cause problems. Also use a block with the sandpaper to keep from causing ripples on the surface from uneven pressure from your fingers. Seal the wood with clear lacquer. It may take two or three coats and sand between applications. The balsa will really suck up the lacquer. This will give you nice firm surface to lay on your primer coat of paint. Use 250-300 paper to lightly sand the surface and check any area that need touch up filler. You can use acrylics, dope on top of this surface. Enjoy the journey
