Almost finished recovering the Stuka. I like the paint scheme much better than the 1st one I did...LOL |

Thanks, Howard. This thrust button is actually one of the old ones (came from a kit I've had in the closet for close to 25 years). So it seems to be pretty good.
Thanks for the tip on the rare earth magnets, I have a Michael's down the street from me that I'll check out.

The nose looks very good.
I suggest that you check that Guillow's thrust button for slop. There should be minimal lateral play in the shaft. If you can tilt it noticeably you probably want to replace it with a Dare or some other thrust button that will take a 3/64 inch shaft. You will get better thrust line adjustments.
Also, after making adjustments to the thrust line, the tighter the nose block stays on the model the better. I use small rare earth magnets (available at Michael's and other craft stores. The silver ones, not the black ones.) to hold the nose block on. Pole to pole the little 1/8 inch magnets have a grip strength of over a pound. They also provide ballast in the nose that has some other useful function. |

I just glued the wheels in place, instead of trying to make full size wheels that turn... |

I faired in the front of the landing spats with some balsa. I've also replaced the red clown wheels supplied in the kit with some "half" (more like a quarter actually) wheels made out of balsa. Once painted they'll look OK. |

The nose came out pretty good considering I did it all by "eye", I think! |

The new color scheme is coming together. I'm going for a more Teutonic white/black/silver. Now that I've had some practice covering, mixing the various colored tissue is getting easier! |

Sorry, Howard, I was working on the site there, I lost your comment... |

I use STP silicone lube spray from the auto parts store. It dries on the rubber but still lubes, protects the rubber, and does not get all over the inside of the model. Many other fliers use Armor-All or Son-of-A-Gun silicone protectants as lube. |

I soak mine in cooking oil wile I build the plane then wipe them clean before installing.Or it will get all over the in side of the plane. Some out last outs but they do very well and thats regular stock rubbers. They say use a green soap that you buy at the hobbie shop. |

When I 1st tried to fly the Stuka I had a motor explode. That's when I learned you have to lubricate the rubber motor, not to mention DON'T use the supplied rubber! I now have a good supply of FIA Tan II rubber... |

This Stuka was the 1st plane I'd build in 30 years, and just used the supplied plastic cowl. After practice with the Druine and Monocoupe I decided to go ahead and make a balsa sheeted nose and plug... |
