I have one of these waiting to be built too... Glad to hear it flies well. |

My TBF also flies well. I have tried different power levels and it behaved different but still flew nicely. Mine has managed elegant loops and also tight turns, but still has a friendly glide ratio. |

I told you that this one, along with the Hellcat, was the best flier. Surprising, isn't it? |

I finished this build some time ago and this was the first flight. Built with kit wood and final weight is 30 grams with clay and rubber. Flew for 45 seconds, great flier. |

When I was a kid that is all had to cover with, Uncle wouldn't let me "waste the so called good tissue". When I finally started using Jap tissue I was amazed at the ease of application. But then I discovered how much Jap tissue shrinks and ended up with warped, bowed construction. I got over that by preshrinking my tissue. I painted a couple of my planes and soon discovered that paint was heavier than domestic so I went back to domestic. Secret to overlays is make sure your stringers are straight. Also invest in a bunch of surgical #11 blades. These blades are great for cutting tissue. I will use two of these blades for a build like this. |

it's great how you guys do the tissue overlays w/ no paint. Nice job! |

Dare (www.darehobby.com) has a 41" span kit. Diels (also available from Dare) have a 27" span Avenger. |

This is really nice, does anyone know of a larger kit? |
scigs30, Comment for image # 6669 | 20 Feb 08 19:38 |
Yes all the balsa is from the kit. What I do know is I buy my kit a month or two before I build. This way if the wood is of poor quality I have Guillows send out a new piece. I must say the quality of wood lately is up there with Dumas. Of course I will fly the Avenger once the rain stops. For the canopy I use strips of Tamyia tape, the best stuff for masking. |

The Guillow comes with a 4 inch prop, way too small for a 16 inch wing. This is a 6 inch Peck Prop. I think Guillow sells 6 inch props, I have not tried one. |
