I've just about memorized this build. Along with a couple others. I go back and check things often.

Here it is finished, from 2007.

Thanks. I'll post the finished product.

That's a beauty. My first ever plane ride was on a Hawaiian Airlines DC-3 from Honolulu to Hilo in 1954.

Sort of.

Looks like this :-)

Thanks, DD. I'll keep trying. I bought the plastic mostly for this one thing.

Beautifully done! That will be the perfect base for your amazing finishes.

I think the plastic wing filet fits easily over the balsa wing fairing.

There is nothing better the a "Nicely covered bottom"
Don C, Comment for image # 276104 Mar 20 18:51
DD, Ed, and everyone who built this one- Did you trim the wing fairing before putting on the plastic? I am having a hard time understanding this step.

Thanks, DD.

I use Testors red tube plastic cement.
Don C, Comment for image # 264024 Feb 20 14:24
DD, or anyone. Which glue is used for plastic to wood? (If it makes a difference)

Don, if you object to my playing with your photo, I'll delete it.

I have been looking into the C-46. I don't know were I read what I did, but the gas tank didn't seem to be a problem. Sorry about that.

did they convert any into gunships like the c-47 in nam?
rayl, Comment for image # 3336703 Mar 15 11:19
The C-46 came into being about 10 years after the DC-3/C-47 so it had newer technology, bigger engines and bigger payload. It did have it's share of teething problems, but what new A/C doesn't. It could carry loads over the Hump while the C-47 couldn't. Air America flew them regularly in 'Nam and the CIA used them in places like the Congo in the 60s. There used to be one that flew out of Des Moines, IA in a Natural Metal scheme.

My uncle flew them both. He preferred the C-46. Said it was easier to fly because the controls had/were hydraulic. The C-47, as most others at that time, were just muscle power. Think of the movie "Memphis Belle" when they dove to put out an engine fire. The pilot told the co-pilot, "You'll have to help me pull out".

From what I read the C-46 had a gas tank under the fuselage between the wings. This caused more problems in combat. Let me know if I am wrong.
