Great job, really shows what can be done with the inexpensive Guillows series kits

Bravo John! Thats a sweet looking bird in flight!

Here is a video of the plane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLf3qHvSB7k After several bounces of the wall, I got the model into a reasonable turn. The turn is too tight and some more trimming is required.

Thanks Guys. I hope to post a video in the next couple weeks.

John, any chance of getting some video of her flying for us to see once you get it all trimmed out? Gorgeous bird!

Very nice!!!

Completed and weighing 14.0g without rubber. I had to make a balsa prop, because the platic one I was going to use made the plane too nose heavy. The plane is trimming really well, like the other 900 series kits I have built. It was quite easy to get it to circle a large gym twice for abouit a 25 sec flight.

I made a new canopy by stretch-molding plastic over a carved balsa plug. I always have trouble getting good results when molding the whole canopy in one piece. In this case, I did 3 separate pieces, joined at the frames. I used very thin pieces of clear tape to join the sections. The joints are hidden by strips of tissue used for the framing.

I have one of these unopened on my list; I can only hope mine turns out half as nice as this beauty!

Nice looking Trojan. How did you repop the new canopy? It came out perfect. Good idea on the wing reinforcement. I think it's the 900 series weakest link.

Thats a GREAT looking model John! Did you end up making the can"O"pea yourself?

Because this is a low wing plane, I added quite a bit of washout (starboard) and washin (port). This keeps it from wanting to spiral in a tight turn.

Just a bit of detailing left. Weight is 14.8g without rubber.

Thanks, will do. One tip I should mention is that I do not always follow the instructions when it says to cover the fuselage in the order of bottom, sides, then top. On the T28 it is easier to cover the top before the sides; you can get a more even overlap. Also, when there are graphics on the side pieces of tissue (that extend to the border of the top piece of tissue), this seems to be the only practical way cover.

Definitely; this is good stuff!
rhysleo, Comment for image # 1392602 Sep 09 15:19
john, this covering job is amazing. i say you should post a how to of how to cover with tissue this good.
John Cooper, Comment for image # 1392602 Sep 09 11:31
It is certainly a big single engine plane when you see the full size aircraft. The full size is also surprisingly model like with a large dihedral and what seems to be down-thrust. For the markings I used the plans and a ruler to figure out where everything goes. My graphics program (one that came with my camera) can display a ruler so I was able to get things relatively close the first time. After a bit of trial and error, I got images that matched the plans.

How do you find out where to print the markings? Do you have a template PDF file or something, or did you create that? Trial and error?
jgood, Comment for image # 1392602 Sep 09 10:30
Looks like a great covering job, John. It always amazes me how large this aircraft is in real-life.
John Cooper, Image # 1392701 Sep 09 23:12

I also chalked the domestic tissue to make it more opaque.
