Over ten years ago! Where does all the time go...... |

Nice to get a decent image of the plane in the air. I'm sure the pilot spotted some enemy forces moving about... |

I think it is a little tail heavy as it tends to porpoise right after launching. I still managed to get in a flight that lasted around 10 seconds. |

BS - The finishing resin arrived today. It doesn't say if it is epoxy or urethane based, just that it contains polyester resins and styrene monomers. |

That make sense Steve, the finishing resin must be an epoxy or a urethane base, of when activated and hardened would not react to mild heat during the vacuum forming process like the nitrate dope would. |

Barnstormer is correct, it protects the soft wood and also gives me something to sand till it is very smooth. But this time around the dope was sticking to the canopy and ruining it. I have since learned dope cannot handle the heat well and I should be using Finishing Resin instead. |

I suspect that when Steve does the vacuum forming of the canopies it helps to protect the balsa and also preserves the forms for later use. |

The Corsair broke off the rear wheel on the first landing but I didn't notice any other damage. The Bird Dog is just too light to get damaged by rough landings. |

All are very nice flight pics. I hope the Corsair the nose dive. |

Great to see her in the air though! No damage? |

The Bird Dog flew like a drunk hummingbird due to the wind. I'll have to try again on a calm day. |

That is one good looking bird! |

Lines for the movable surfaces have been added. |

Doesn't even come close to the one by RodN, but hopefully this one will fly well. It is a fairly nice looking bird considering it doesn't have so much as a single machine gun on it. |

Another master of the craft. Nice job on one of my favorite birds. |

AUW is 21.3 grams, motor is 1/8" single loop 9" long FAI tan SS, and sporting the Guillow's prop and thrust button (wanted to give them a try). The "USAF" decal is a cut up "U.S.ARMY" decal. In hindsight I think I would have prefered the Army version. |
SteveM, Image # 7341 | 25 Mar 08 12:41 |
Covered with tissue and am working on the canopy pieces. Forgot to use black tissue so I have to paint the nose, but it should be fine. Esitmated AUW is 20 grams plus the weight of crystal clear and decals. |
