The outside of the chalked tissue. The black side (left) makes the tissue a more realistic darker color but I prefer the less blotchy right side, done with blue.

I am going to cover the model with blue, chalked tissue. As an experiment, I chalked with blue and black.

To make the wings stronger I added a thin bamboo spar. The mid-point of the spar is cracked to match the dihedral and I will strengthen it with paper before covering the bottom.

I replaced most of the wood in the kit with contest balsa. The sides and most of the parts are 1/32 balsa.

This is an 18 inch span, rubber powered model, weighing 17.5g, without rubber. The lozenge pattern, on the tissue, was done with an inkjet printer.

This is not really an Albatros DII, but the floatplane derivative of this type, the Albatros W.IV

Completed and weighing 14.0g without rubber. I had to make a balsa prop, because the platic one I was going to use made the plane too nose heavy. The plane is trimming really well, like the other 900 series kits I have built. It was quite easy to get it to circle a large gym twice for abouit a 25 sec flight.

A picture taken, from the Norseman, of the large pond on my cottage property (near Ottawa, Canada). The photo is from fall, 2008.

The Norseman taxis back to shore after a photo mission. The photo pod can be seen between the landing gear.

I thought my Norseman would feel more home on floats. The floats are balsa sheeted and were later covered with Aerokote Lite.

Because this is a low wing plane, I added quite a bit of washout (starboard) and washin (port). This keeps it from wanting to spiral in a tight turn.
