This Storch is a little nose heavy, balancing just past he leading edge. I'll try flying it like this before adding tail weight.

The landing gear have a somewhat realistic motion - An aluminium tube in the fake Oleo allows the carbon fiber rod attached to the wing root, to retract.

Leading edge slats are installed. I built them from a lamination of 2 1/32 sheets and then sanded to an airfoil shape.

I am building the Storch for indoor R/C and estimate all-up-weight of under 100g (3.6 oz) . The little E-Flite 180 motor will be way too much power, but it fits nicely. The Aeronavale roundels are simply paper printed with an inkjet. A generous amount of glue stick softens the paper to conform nicely to the tissue. The rudder has white tissue printed with an inkjet printer.

It was a bit of a pain to cover the parts where the outer panels meet the upper window. In some cases I needed tweezers to pull the tissue in place. I will also be adding extended slats.

A Dumas, Not a Guillow's Storch. I am covering it with blue tissue, chalked with black. It will have a post war Aeronavale (French Navy Air Arm) paint scheme. I won't be using much paint, however. The cowl here is covered with many bits of blue tissue.

John CooperGuillows Series 300 - DeHavilland BeaverBuild23-Jan-14 13:32

Finished, balanced and weighing in at 33.8g (1.39oz), without rubber. This is a good weight for indoor flying and may even be able to R.O.G. off a smooth floor. Unfortunately I built the float struts too short and needed to use a smaller home-build 3 blade balsa prop instead of the kit prop.

The struts for the floats are supported by very thin steel wire. They have quite a bit of flex and I will need this in order to land safely on a hard gym floor.

I embellished the engine with a balsa disk with straight pins stuck into it. I trimmed the pins to just fit in the cowl.

I liked the fact that there are float plans in the kit - although I didn't follow the plans exactly. I only used a few bulkheads and stringers and sheeted everything with 1/32 contest balsa. They look a little heavy but weight in at a reasonable 9.2 grams.

This is a nicely designed model with good parts fit. I am building this Beaver for indoor free flight, so I want to make it light. I trimmed out a great deal of balsa and replaced some pieces with 1/32 wood.

In the nose is a Gizmo-Geezerr prop assembly http://www.gizmogeezer.com/pfw.htm This devices allows for easy thrust adjustments, via 3 small screws.
