I guess that I have accomplished what I set out to do. I have made mistakes and ommisions but as a old IPMS friend said (as he carried off the 1st place trophy): "It's just a silly model airplane".

Another shot. THe paint around the masked area is a little ragged due to the quick heavy coat of primer. I have noticed that the H/L (Chinese) tape will leave a little residue whcih is a problem that I never experianced with real "ChartPak" tape. A little "GooGone" on a Q-tip takes care of the problem. Feel free to ask more questions, that's what it's all about.

To remove the mask and tape, just lift off with a fingernail, knife blade, toothpick or whatever. See how the mask just peels off. One word of caution: It is best to peel the mask back as shown to make sure that the loose paint particles stay off of teh clear area.

A quick shot of primer for reference. Has this beeb the real thing, the masking would stay on until all painting and overcoating was completed.

Ready to paint. The masking fluid dries almost clear.

Continuing on with the process. There are a couple of bubbles evident but have skinned over so they are OK.

Maskinig fluid applied. Note that there are several air bubbles evident. If they don't go away on their own accord and you aren't sure about the coverage, just daub some more masking fluid over the offending spot. As I mentioned before a thin film is all that's required, more is not better.

Here I have trimmed the excess tape to deliniate the areas that I want to mask. I cut the tape at the corners using a rounded blade in my No. 11 Xacto knife. That way I can rool the blade through the tape instead of slicing it which insures that I don't dislodge the tape. Here I am applying the masking fluid making sure that the edges of the tape is covered. (You don't need to squeeze the applicator, gravity flow will get get the job done.) After the edges are covered, just put a little in the middle and make sure that all is covered. Caution: Don't use a brush that you will want to use again, I use one of those disposal "MicroBrushes" from H/L.

It is a good idea, as was pointed out earlier to dip the canopy in "Future" floor wax then let it drip off. Daub any excess off of the lower edges as it flows off. "Future" is not made anymore, but a good substitute if "Pledge - with Future Shine". I have the areas that I want to mask off outlined with the 1/16" crepe tape. You will need to put a little tension on it as you lay out your pattern. The next step is to burnish the tape down as it has just a little more juice than a sticky note.
