Trace the part onto the styrene. Remove about 1/32" from three sides of the wood, leaving the top flush with the plastic. Glue and paint.

I used non-expanding, clear Gorilla Glue to glue the edges together. It seems to do the trick.

The engine cowls are pool noodles. I ripped them lengthwise on a table saw and then wrapped them onto the tube to cut to size.
