I just tried using bigger rubber and I reduced the number of rubber strands, on my 22" Cabinaire, with great results. Instead of 4 strands of 1/8" rubber, each strand 13" long (the prop hook to rear motor peg length on the plan was 13"), which gave consistent 25 second flights, I then instead went to 2 strands of 3/16" rubber, each strand 15" long. I could really stretch the rubber very far out from the nose, using a winding stooge, and wound in 55 winds on my 15:1 winder which equals 825 turns on the rubber motor, and got my record, much slower, beautiful turning flight of 48 seconds!! Tthen I got greedy and wound 70 turns on the winder for 1050 turns, and when I put the nose plug on - the Rubber Motor BLEW UP !!! Tissue damage all over the rear end, and a big chunk (sitting on my glasses case), of the foreward fuse former, busted out, along with the bottom fuse forward nose stringers busted !!

This kit also came with these tires. I inflated them with my airbrush compressor.

George "Bud" Gere Jr. (designer of the Gere Sport plane) died when he slipped while trying to dislodge a frozen sled runner while testing out a newly built iceboat on White Bear Lake on Jan 18, 1931, and fell into the spinning propeller and died of his injuries. He was only 19 years old. A trajic loss of such a brilliant young mind. Makes you wonder ...

20" Sig 'Customaire biplane - The second W6 rib on each wing is now added with a 1/32" spacer between the ribs, where the strut tips will locate in the space between the doubled up W6 ribs. The strut tips can be moved forward or backward in the slot, or "sprung a little", in the slot left when I remove the 1/32" spacer. There are also added one 1/16" square balsa strip of wood on top of the solid wing tip pieces, to sand down and shape after assembly, for a smooth tissue application. Two little gussets were also added at the skinny thin 3/32" wing tip root - OOOOPS - I used 1/16" sq - must cut it out now! Smiley and put in the right size ...

20" Sig 'Customaire" biplane - All of the parts are now glued up with a 90:10 glue:water mixture, for the second part of double gluing. Everything is braced flat to the table and all of the ribs have little planks pinned on the tops of them to hold the rib bottoms flat to the table.

Sig 20" 'Customaire' Biplane - The hard part is done - all mating surfaces fit evenly flush and slightly snug. I then removed all of the parts with tweezers, except for the leading and trailing edges, and glued all of the mating surfaces with about 65:35 white glue:water mixture, and set them on wax paper, on top of photocopies, of lower left and lower right wing, and let them dry. The mating surfaces of the leading edge and trailing edge were also glued to let dry, as the first step of "double gluing".
