Phantom Pharewell in Wittmund, Germany. After more than 40 years of service, the F-4 Phantom II of the German Luftwaffe was finally retired this weekend. Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" was the last squadron to fly the "Luftverteidungsdiesel" (air defence diesel). It will now be replaced by the Eurofighter. Photo is one of my plastics, a model of really bad quality, in the old Norm-72 colors. There are a lot of (copyright protected) photos on airliners.net and a lot of nice video clips on youtube; they had a fly-in on Saturday in Wittmund.

Two sets of inner and outer wings for the Riser 100. Outer wings now need to be joined with the inner wings, then they will be covered. This sure is a big soarer!

The plane took a rough tree landing, the right outer wing is gone, have to rebuild it. Tail is torn off but will be glued in place. All R/C equipment and electric equipment seems to be o.k.

Meanwhile, my electric glider found it's way back home. Very funny story. At 7 a.m. today in the morning, I went out to search a large field of canola (?) for my plane. Searching a model plane with translucent yellow wings in a yellow field is no fun. I found a plane - but it wasn't mine. I returned it to our little hut in the middle of the field. In the afternoon I got a phone call - the very owner of the plane I had found had gone out to search for himself - and had found my plane.

Today, I lost my beloved electric soar plane Return 2000, which I have flewn for almost four years. Although it was not a real sexy model plane, it flew well and had very forgiving characteristics. After a break of more than 20 years, I learnt to fly with it again in 2008. Today, in good soaring conditions, I took my eyes of it only for a moment - and it was gone. Hope it does not hit anyone - our flying side is surrounded by some densely populated areas. Now I have to give the plastics a break and finish the Riser 100. Although I still have the box and the plans for the Return 2000, I will probably not rebuilt it - its hard to get the old equipment it was designed for.

For Briandkilby: My Academy's Jagdpanther, 1/25. Sorry for posting a tank - they usually don't fly very well.

This is not the Guillows kit but scratch built from an old plan by W.C. Hannan from the late 60s.

Next: A standard sail plane. This is a huge box! I'll try to fly it electric.

Ready for flight. Total weight incl. rubber is now 48g, which I think is too much. Let's see whether it flies.
