Dale1416 | 15-Nov-10 19:38 | 15/11/10 19:31 I was happy with the finished results and glad I made the modifications to the construction of this model. But I don't care to construct another one of the Series 900 builds. |
lukebozek1 | 16-Nov-10 08:00 | This is one of the nicest planes I have seen, and it surprises me to see a kit I have never really been interested in look this great. I have one or two 900's in my closet. What didn't you like about the 900's? I like the 3/4 scale warbirds because of the substantial frames, but this is really very very nice. Great job! |
Dale1416 | 17-Nov-10 10:49 | What I didn't like about it was the sheet balsa was very thin. (only aprox. 1/20th" thick). The thinest material that I've worked with on previous models is 1/16th. So it was just too fragile for me.
The width of the thin balsa also didn't match up with the 1/16th square stringers. The fuselage construction was just to lightweight. It was meant to be a flying model, I had to add a lot of additional support structure. |
lukebozek1 | 18-Nov-10 07:38 | Thanks Dale, I see that also on the kits I have, but it is no accident. These are really built to fly. I just did a Javelin and the body is very fragile, I added gussets, extra cross-members and it still broke in three places when I tissued. Maybe it is my fingers. |
TWA1985 | 22-Nov-10 22:50 | Very clean looking job! Well done! |
