nice work, i build the same plane but as an r.c.-construction. If you're looking for some inspiration on building the cowl you could take a look at this site : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=457397 Enjoy the build, she's a fine piece of airplane...

Jack...thanks I have already been there. I hope this Spad is half as nice as yours.

mine is a very 'basic-build'.... yours is already turning into a masterpiece. But i'm really curious on how you're gonna tackle the wings, cause those ribs are very typical in the design of the SPAD. :-)

What is so special about the wings....just a lot of spars. This was the reason why I choose this Spad model. Your Spad was a bit far from basic in its construction. ZYour Spad had your creativity in it.

a true word... I admire al the work and dedication I see here and your builds are awesome... (the rat and the tri-motor are just mind-blowing and not only because you hardly see them being build!) So the moment I saw this thread I was very excited. I will return to the background, watch and steal with my eyes ! ;-)

Jack I still cannot figure the cowl sequence. Maybe I misplaced a ring. Do not go away. Post pictures of your Spad.
jack daw04-Oct-08 07:59
If i recall well, the cowl is made of three (thick) rings of balsa, one smaller one in balsa and on top one or two rings in ply (I didn't use them, because they got broken. I replaced it with an balsa ring and then coated the whole thing in thinned epoxy). Once the rings are glued it's time for a lot of sanding and shaping. :-)

Not to take anything from John, but if you haven't seen Jack's SPAD, go take a look. He is exceedingly modest in what his plane looks like. And it flies! The flight photos are absolutely inspiring.
