here is the balsa exhaust collection ring I made in its rough stage. Drilling it out for the insertion of these sleeves did some damage. Once I had the sleeves inserted and positioned properly, adhesive was applied to the inside of the ring at each position. Then filler was used to address the damage to the outside. I rolled a small length of 100 grit sandpaper and flattened it on one side to be able to sand around the bases of the sleeves.

Was about to ask about the motor but decided to go to your youtube channel and sure enough the answer was there. Looking good.

one item I did not describe or show on the channel : I did not use the cylinder pedestals from the kit. Instead - I hogged out the holes in the crankcase where the cylinder pedestals were to be mounted and inserted the cylinders into the crankcase directly - to a depth of 1/8"..this to reduce the scale diameter of the P&W engine to that of the Lycoming

I then only had to reduce the length of the cylinder push rods by the same 1/8" - just cutting off one end (the end attached to the crankcase) did the trick

I’m glad the new resource had the information you were looking for, Ken. If there is anything you need an answer to that I might have missed or only partially covered wrt this build, either here or on the youtube channel, please let me know. And Thank You for checking out ‘Heywood Planes’ on youtube!

I watched some of your videos this morning. Great stuff! Learn something new every day:–)

Hey Dave - glad you liked them! My hope is that they can be entertaining if not informative. I am no expert, everyone has their own way of doing things. I only want to present my methods as an option or means to an end. Sharing the passion more than disseminating the information or techniques that I have learned.. Most of what I know about this stuff I learned from you and the other terrific model makers here.
