Looks good and a bit familiar. Are those the small DU-Bro hinges?
biplane guy09-May-16 16:34
Hey Don. No, these are the larger Dubro hinges that I had left over from my last build 40 years ago. After struggling to cut the slots for the ailerons I realized they were not going to work for the rudder and elevator. Then I bought the small size for the remainder. Wish I had used the smaller ones for everything.

Beautiful job "Mr." Biplane guy. You've really done a masterful job at the painting and trimming of colors and letters and numbers. Really a fantastic show.

You may have noticed that there is no "U.S." before the "NAVY". That's because the picture (also posted here) that I used to make the stencil for the lettering didn't include it. I wasn't aware it was supposed to be there until I looked at a picture of the other side of the plane. Duh.

Looking good!! Your attention to details and the craftsmanship thereof is amazing!

Thanks poppy. I'm very OCD and there are some "non-scale" aspects to this build that drive me nuts. Most are my own fault. I didn't realize that I had built and covered the rudder wrong until I was ready to put the registration number in place on the fin. I was looking at a picture of the number that the Carolina's Air Museum had emailed me when I saw the mistake. The front tip of the rudder should have been the top of the fin. Grrr! Also, the pushrod exits for the ailerons and elevator, while necessary for the working controls, are not authentic. I will not obsess, I will not obsess....
Don C17-May-16 09:15
That's good, because as you can see, nobody here obsesses over details.

Don C, and Biplane Guy, wanna bet no one else is OCD?? I keep clicking my heels saying: "There's no place like modeling. There's no place like modeling.... Ohhh, I left off a detail. Oh Nooo, I must include this very important (impotent?) part or else the plane doesn't look right." Ahhh, its so nice to have OCD company. I'm not alone. I'm not alone.....
