Striamed1 | 09-Sep-20 21:01 | Masking tape starting to come off. Have come undercarriage painting to d. |
David Duckett | 10-Sep-20 07:46 | This appears to be 909, the Collings Foundation B-17 that crashed. |
Striamed1 | 10-Sep-20 09:29 | Yes. It has special meaning to me. Was a horrible tragedy. |
David Duckett | 10-Sep-20 09:36 | I saw it several times when they came to Marana, just north of Tucson. On one occasion there was a retired major working with them who had been stationed with me here. And once I watched it take off. It was the first and only time I saw one in flight and it was a beautiful experience. The sound was amazing! |
edtherenderman | 10-Sep-20 09:54 | I'm fortunate enough to live just south of the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum in Everett and during the summers (alas, not this year!), the combat aircraft often fly over my house. I've had the joyous experience of seeing B-17s, B-24s, B-25s, Mustangs, Thunderbolts and the occasional T-6 Texan. They all make an amazing sound! Not all of them are owned by the museum, but they often fly in, especially around July 4th and during the SeaFair in August. |
Don C | 10-Sep-20 12:27 | Very nice. I only saw this one once, but was fortunate enough to fly in the EAA's Aluminum Overcast several years ago. |
Skyediamonds1985 | 10-Sep-20 20:27 | I have an old enlarged photo of 909 that I took of the co-pilot standing proudly next to the boarding ladder. When I visited my storage facility awhile back, just seeing it brought back great memories. You mentioned it was personal. How so? If you don't mind my asking..... |
