SteveM | 29-Apr-08 02:28 | Horizontal stabilizer and ailerons covered with Doculam. Thinking about covering the fuse and wing leaves me aprehensive, but I guess it just requires lots of time and care. |
poppy | 29-Apr-08 03:23 | You have probably said b-4, but how does the Ducolem adhere? Super covering job so far! |
SteveM | 29-Apr-08 12:15 | The Doculam has heat activated adhesive on one side. Before use it has a frosted appearance (see the scraps at the top of the picture). But once the glue has been activated it turns clear. I have noticed that I need more overlap than what I am used to. A 1/16" wide edge is not always enough like it was with tissue and dope/glue.
If you would like a sample to try, I will gladly send you enough for a plane or two as the 500'x1' roll is more than enough for my lifetime. |
sweetwillie | 29-Apr-08 12:21 | Steve, I can't even see the covering. How does it accept paint? Especially acrylics. If you have that much, send me some with the Zero. |
SteveM | 29-Apr-08 12:36 | It's about like trying to paint the plastic parts our models, kind slimes around so you need to apply a very thin base coat and let it get good and dry. Paint adhesion is not the best and certainly not suitable for a static display model. When patching the Tyro I treated it with vinegar so we'll see if that helps improve adhesion. I will happily toss in some Doculam for you, but I suggest using it only on flying planes with simple paint schemes. The ailerons may look smooth now, but paint will reveal some small wrinkles near the corners. |
sweetwillie | 29-Apr-08 13:09 | Well, in that case, forget the Doculam, it sound like it would be more trouble than it's worth. Thanks, anyway.
Any ideas on how I can mount the other wing accurately. |
