calavera | 08-Feb-12 17:00 | I broke this rib between the upper left and bottom slots while test fitting. I glued it back together with elmer's yellow... is it ok to use it or should I make a replacement with this as the template? |
lukebozek1 | 08-Feb-12 17:07 | That yellow glue is pretty strong stuff. If you're not sure, you could also add a stringer lengthwise for added strength. |
calavera | 08-Feb-12 17:11 | By that do you mean adding some sort of thin scrap between the slots from left to right? |
calavera | 10-Feb-12 02:59 | ah I see, stringer=1/16 balsa strip :) Unfortunately the space betweeen the two slots isn't wide enough to even fit that in. I think I just might go with the repaired piece and not worry about it. |
John M Oshust | 10-Feb-12 06:48 | The glue is stronger than the wood...not to worry. |
calavera | 11-Feb-12 02:19 | it definitely seemed to be when I glued in this rib. I found the reason it broke in the first place, which was that the front edge (on the left side in photo) was a little too tight a fit. So the whole rib was compressing when trying to fit it in position. However, the repair held tight and didn't feel unstable, so I just sanded off a bit of the edge and glued that sucker in there. |
