FLYBOYZ | 29-Mar-09 10:45 | Must be a expermintal type of the F6F it was painted a bright color to keep our on flak guns from shooting it down.They did a lot of prototypes this way too.But Iam looking at the X-2 on the tail and no guns mounted on leading edge of wings.Beleave to be a prototype.Very nice find! |
frwyflyer | 29-Mar-09 10:53 | I think it might have been used for research. I remember seeing many F6F's being flown fro Litchfield, AZ into Pt Mugu NAS in CA in the early 50's. Some painted like this one was for remote control experiments and others were painted red and used as target drones for the early missile programs. |
