| David Duckett | Berkeley Douglas F4D Skyray | Build | 20-Jan-16 20:47 | | | Views : 905 | | Those gray things in the exhaust, called vanes, obviously would not be on a real jet but they align and support the rear of the model. The reason for using all those 1/16" stringers was to keep the opening as close to a circle as possible while gluing them to the paper. It's quite strong. You can't see most of what's inside now so painting it all black will effectively cloak it and all you'll see is a black hole. About a inch and a half of the outside from the rear will be painted a dark metallic. |

The ailerons and fin/rudder will be fabricated from laminations and will probably cause the plane to be tail heavy so the intakes will probably have to suck up some weight. |

| rayl | Scratch Built Loening OL-8 Amphibian | Build | 18-Jan-16 23:15 | | | Views : 932 | | There are about 15 rib blanks clamped in the patterns. The red edge, applied with a sharpy, is a warning stripe to let me know if I have gone to far. I roughed the shape out with my drum sander then used a fairing board to refine the ribs. The notches were roughed out with a razor saw then refined with a small bastard file. |

| rayl | Scratch Built Loening OL-8 Amphibian | Build | 18-Jan-16 23:03 | | | Views : 930 | | With about 80 full size ribs to cut out of 1/16" sheet, Imade a jig out of 1/8" lite-ply to insure consistent results. There are two 6-32 stove-bolts to clamp the rib blanks between the patterns. The thingy to the left is a piece of 1/8" O.D. brass tube with the inside sharpened with a countersink which should make some nice holes in the rib blanks using the pattern jig in front. |
