Out at the field again, 2 hours before gassers are allowed to fly. Warmer than before and a gentle breeze that will eventually shift 180 from what the wind sock is showing now.

I guess you'll have to take my word for it, but the last of the tailfeathers are now covered. All that remains are the wing and fuse.

The Tyro is repaired once again and tips the scales at 17.2 ounces with the A123 cells (3S1P 1100 mAh). The rather large piece of wood on the floor is a fuselage side from the Aero-Star .40 that DD so kindly sent me. Next flight is tomorrow morning.

I added some tabs at the rear of the hatch so those magnets are probably not needed. The velco patch helps keep the battery from sliding left and right, there really is no room for the battery to move up or to the front or rear so this might be enough.

The new battery hatch is held on all four corners with magnets and a 2-56 nylon screw in the front helps hold the hatch and and provides a handle.

The fuse is back together but I may need to spring for a replacement fuse if I keep running it into the ground. The servo tray was moved aft to make room for the battery, luckily I had left the nose wheel cable a little long.

I didn't see this damage at first. All I can figure is the LE hit the fuse afte rthe wing popped off. This take more time to repair than the fuse as it requires a patch in the covering and repainting.

I don't mind crashing, but I hate it when it happens 2 minutes into your first flight and you have nothing else to fly. The white blob is the LiFe battery pack. Airframe weighs 12.3 oz, AUW was 13.7 oz on LiPo 640 mAh but is now 17 oz with 1100 mAh LiFe.

The correct batteries for the Tyro have finally arrived! No data yet on the increase in wattage and AUW, but they do weigh over 3 oz more than the tiny LiPo packs I was using. Max charge rate is 8C but 5C (5.5 Amps) is recommended.

The third flight I tried to do more runway passes but the wind was up to about 2-3 MPH and was shifting directions. I dipped a wingtip into the ground and broke the motor mount. A little CA got me in the air again but the wind got the better of me again.

The previous flight lasted about 4.5 minutes so the second flight I tried to do less full throttle and towards the end of the flight reduced power. I managed to get 6 minutes of air time. One bounce on the runway then a plop into the grass.

After several passes, few of which were anywhere near the runway, the ESC cut out on low voltage while attempting to pull out at full throttle. I reset the ESC and lined up the best I could, 4-5 large bounces later I managed to get stopped on the runway.
