The, home brewed, spoke wheel project comes to a close. Spoke wheels can now be “home brewed” to fit most scales that I may require. From left to right, Surgical silk wheels for Ogre, Fishing line monofilament wheel for a future build, and the Kevlar spoke wheels that I used on Nunzio. The Kevlar wheel has a wooden rim and a simpler lacing pattern. BTW for what it is worth, the DAP spackle, to Gumby’s right, has the Gumby seal of approval and is readily available at the Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Wheel spokes are laced in using fish line monofilament. Diameter and test unknown found in very old tackle box. After the lacing, a heat gun was briefly applied. This cause all spokes to contract and tighten. Super strong and tight wheel.

Lookee, lookee, lookee, what arrived today. The Winsock reference booklet, with great razor sharp B+W photos, information about the evolution and design of the aero-plane. Complete with the terminology that was standard practice way back when. Worth every penny of the purchase price.

The best feature of this manual is a reason not to limit Ogre’s paint color to RAF ( Royal Aircraft Factory) green!!

Nothing much going on here today, winter and its wind returned, I had my ears lowered by Angelo, and the Gumster trued and balanced Ogre’s wheels!
