Picked up all these Carpenter/Cabinet planes on ebay.de for around $100. Shipped! All the blades and wedges are there. Just a bit of TLC. And some serious re-grind on a couple. It's all good though. I've been acquiring and restoring many vintage hand tools over the past few years to use. nothing like "Hands-on" ! |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Reference | 11-Nov-19 17:00 | | Views : 897 | Learning to fly...HaHa...Funny...During my hiatus I jumped into the art of the Sythe. I made the "Snathe" (handle) out af laminated spruce. I mowed my Fathers lawn with it for a year and a half....before I jumped into my new life. Built that Cabin too. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 13:01 | | Views : 860 | Trimmed down. I'm also adding Carbon Fiber cap strips (1/16 x .008") to the diagonal ribs to stiffen up the VERY thin airfoil. Flutter is NOT good!! |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 05:21 | | Views : 866 | All up weight is now at 5 oz. including receiver and battery. Yay. Now the fuselage. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 05:18 | | Views : 267 | The large Carbon tube is left long for now. This unit will be something like a cartridge that will be removable from the fuselage...well...because the servos are mounted inverted. A hatch on the bottom for access isn't really a good idea with no landing gear!! |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 05:09 | | Views : 221 | The larger tube I made from "Carbon Sleeve" fabric molded around a 5mm rod. The little spring just pushes the Bellcranks out into position. Titanium spring (I just happened to have some, so what the heck ;o ). |

pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 05:03 | | Views : 229 | Parts. The side plates will be profiled after everything is test assembled. I wish to be able to disassemble the whole thing later to help facilitate repairs. In the past I've built all the radio gear and "Monkey Motion" into the model permanently and regretted it later. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 04:55 | | Views : 249 | Rough Bellcranks. I will reinforce the disc mount with wrapped carbon tow to create fillets. |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 04:53 | | Views : 259 | Since all my machines are still in the US I have to roll with what I have. Cordless drill and a Dremel. This is my substitute Lathe. HaHa |
pfinn | Scratch Built Holiday | Build | 07-Nov-19 04:50 | | Views : 268 | "Monkey Motion". Although I have computer design software, figuring out geometries is pretty darn fun this way too. The green pins are stationary hinge points and the yellow are move. #1 is the push-rod from the servo. #2 is the Bellcrank and #3 in the connecting rod to the wing pin, The crosshatch area is the movement I am after. |
