The Dauntless has twin 30 cal in the rear and two fixed fifty cal in the nose. The 30 in the front, the fifty, and a 6 inch ruler for scale.

While not a tail assembly by Douglas or Guillows, this one is better....its a "poppy!" I could not go with the guillows and the construction at this point prevented a Douglas, carful study of poppy's build thread illuminated the path. Poppy, I hope you had as much "fun" figurung out this stage of the build as I did!!!

From poppy's Dauntless build I noticed the hoist cable in the pit. Now I know why it is there. Factoid... The SBD,primarily a carrier base plane, did not have folding wings. It barely fit, diagonally on the flight deck elevator. To save space on the hanger deck, SBDs were suspended from the ceiling on the hanger deck. My reference books show them suspended. The hoist cable is also shown lifting them from the dock to the flight deck
