SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Flying | 12-Apr-08 03:39 | | Views : 2545 | The Corsair kept doing a nose dive, I think the nose is too heavy and I will have to shift the battery aft. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Parked | 01-Apr-08 03:07 | | Views : 2995 | Some day I'll have to build one of these larger versions. I wonder if they can be powered from an electric motor? |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Parked | 26-Mar-08 16:47 | | Views : 2698 | Vertical fin is now facing foward and lines for the moving surfaces have been added. |

SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Parked | 26-Mar-08 02:39 | | Views : 2562 | New batteries are installed and decals have been applied. AUW is 58.5 grams, the motor will give a max of 14 grams of thrust and will run for about 40 seconds with most of the power in the first 20 seconds. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 25-Mar-08 19:58 | | Views : 2357 | The extra battery adds 3.5 grams for a AUW of 56.5 grams but thrust has increased from about 9 grams to about 14.5 grams. I think it was a good weight/thrust trade off. |

SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 25-Mar-08 13:44 | | Views : 2252 | My $2 pack of replacement 50 mAh batteries for the Corsair arrived this morning, as did an idea I got from a website who I can't site due to uhhhh... operator error on a computer operating system upgrade last weekend. To the post office! |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 17-Mar-08 22:33 | | Views : 2204 | I killed the 2x50mAh NiCd batteries from charging too quickly so I decided to try out a 150mAh LiPo cell and my low voltage protection circuit. The circuit works as designed but I quickly realized I was trying to draw about 3A from a 1.5A rated battery. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 14-Mar-08 05:00 | | Views : 2419 | The Corsair is ready for her maiden, AUW is 53 grams. I will add more detail after it has flown. I have two seperate sources that say the wing area and weight are a good match to the motor, battery, and prop, but the thrust just seems weak to me. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 11-Mar-08 13:46 | | Views : 2138 | I decided the 5" prop may be too large for the direct drive motor and switched it out for a 4" prop. It is identical to the prop that put the One Nite 28 into the top of a tree, so it should be good enough for this bird. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 11-Mar-08 13:43 | | Views : 2289 | Canopy is held on with Neodymium magnets. |
SteveM | Dumas Kit #213, F4U Corsair | Build | 10-Mar-08 04:06 | | Views : 2385 | Plastics are a terrible fit! Downright disgraceful on the oil coolers. Weight as shown is about 47g, flying weight should be around 50g. |
