Thought that we would add some flight pix to the Cloud buster album. Here is the Super Cloudbuster and some Cirrus. Feb 2009. |

But it flys better with a new tailboom. The darkened shade of the aircraft during a late afternoon flight reminds me that about the time of these pictures, I learned an important lesson in finishing these airplanes. As Bill Parker points out, our humid climate and thinned Elmers white glue don't get along very well. My favorite adhesive and finish for models is thinned Elmers. Flying these models in damp weather often resulted in a limp and slightly tacky covering. So we tried spraying the model with a couple or more coats of rattle can clear polyurethane from the local hardware store. It very slightly darkens the tissue cover and exposed wood, but it greatly improves the all weather flying ability of the models. |

Dissappointed with the damage and curious to see if it would fly with the shortened tail boom. We tried a flight with the remains and it did fly, sorta. |

After an early test flight. We had made the mistake of using balsa for the tailboom. This was changed to a harder wood and we haven't had any tail boom breaks after that. |

Early in 2009, we decided to build a partner for the modified Cloudbuster. Unfortunately, we didn't take any construction pix. But we do have this completed structure before covering. We kept the areas, and most of the demensions and moments of the CB. The wing and tail structure was simplified and the dihedral changed to polyhedral. The tailboom and swept vertical tail was retained. The nose pod was cleaned up to include the removeable wing mod, ballast box, and semi-enclosed nose wheel into a single unit. Both of the models are 17 inches wingspan. |
